The WODland workouts are all team workouts - with an emphasis on the ‘teamwork’ - designed to test all types of functional fitness - with an emphasis on the ‘fun’.
Precise details of the seven workouts (plus final) involved will be released on the day / night of the event, but expect the WODland workouts to combine all aspects of functional fitness, including lifting, shifting, carrying, dragging, running, sprinting, cycling, and climbing.
The events will be designed to test not only fitness, strength, and stamina, but teamwork, timing, and strategy. So it will be the teams that work together the best that will succeed in WODland, not just the fittest or strongest.
You can visit our ‘workouts’ page to see a sample of the type of movements you will be expected to complete as a team at the weekend, these are also a great way of practicing working as a team in the run up to the event.

We recommend wearing matching team kit, the brighter the better! Unleash your creativity and show your team’s personality by designing your own team outfits. Check out photos from previous events for inspiration – the WODland Ranger Team were particularly impressed with the matching tops which repped their team names, it’s time to raise your game!
It is very very likely that you will be outside ALL day and away from your comfort of the cars. (We are in the middle of a forest) Wear clothing / layers and footwear that you would be warm & comfortable in – you don’t want to be held back by feeling cold & possibly wet all weekend.
Bring plenty of spare clothes as you may get wet more than once in a day, or wear quick drying technical fabrics designed for the outdoors.
We advise you to bring more than one pair of shoes as these may get wet & muddy. Trail shoes are a must for any possible run event. Our WODland Ranger Crew wear trail shoes on the arena for extra grip. We want to make sure your feet are protected at all times.
We always pray for sunshine but don’t forget that it might get cold later in the day so bring plenty of layers / waterproofs. Rain is always a possibility (especially as we are a UK event!) so come prepared for all eventualities.
Below are some recommendations and requirements to make sure you have the best time possible at WODland.
Clothes for all weathers.
Including waterproofs, warm clothes, and spare clothes.
A change of shoes.
Trail running shoes are advisable, as well as comfortable shoes to wear during the WODs.
Bug spray.
WODland takes place in a forest, so midges, flies and other insects are unfortunately to be expected! If you’re prone to being bitten (or even if you’re not) a bug spray or similar repellent should help, and will hopefully allow you to have an enjoyable, bug-free weekend.
Tents / mini gazebo’s.
We are based in the middle of the forest. We have organised for a main tent to be situated in the arena area. For the waiting time between the events and your heats, we recommend that you bring some form of shade for you and your team. You can, for example, pitch a gazebo or pop-up tent around the arena. Please be aware that this should not get in the way of event operations or competition flow – some events may take the athletes outside the main arena so you should make sure your shelter is not disrupting such events. (If you do bring them, please take them away with you afterwards.)
Sunscreen and umbrellas
Good or bad, hot or cold—we can’t always guarantee what the weather will be like in Yorkshire, so it’s best to prepare for all extremes… Some sunscreen, aftersun lotion, and an umbrella are all recommended.
Plenty of water.
Thanks to one of our WODland supporters, your welcome pack will include some free Buxton Water, and there will be several food and drink vendors on site selling a variety of hot and cold drinks all weekend. But please note, because of the isolated location of the WODland arena there will be no access to running drinking water. Best to bring plenty of bottled water to keep you fresh and hydrated during the workouts.
Gloves.
Not mandatory, but they may come in handy during workouts. You will NOT be marked down for wearing gloves—we don’t see these as an aid or cheat.
Cash.
Please be aware that there are no cash points on site. Our Vendors will accept card payments, but depending on signal strength, they might not always work. The nearest cash points are situated in the village of Holmfirth.
Lifting shoes and skipping ropes.
You may not need lifters or skipping ropes… but feel free to bring whatever equipment you would like to use to warm up or prepare for your day.
Warming up.
There is a small designated warm up area to the side of the main arena. But there might not be items you’re used to warming up with, such as; foam rollers, barbells and assault bikes. You may want to bring some mobility tools with you.
Please note there are no storage facilities for your kit. The parking is not next to the arena itself. So please plan on bringing what you need for the day with you. Please refer to your event guide for more information with regards to parking for the weekend.
We are always on the look out for more people to join the WODland family, whether that be to support us through sponsorship of the event, having a stall at our events, coming on-board as a WODland Ranger over the weekend or simply supporting us with the many tasks and roles that are involved in making all our events as good as they can be.

Why not get together with some training partners or team mates and give some of our workouts a go, they will focus on getting you working well as a team, who knows, they may even give an insight to what could be in store at our events!
